This is a guide on how to make some sensory stimulating little toys for children aged 2 months to 2 years by The Baby Hamper Company. Babies and children love these as they are bright colours, make sounds and pretty shapes, and for younger babies, they can push them and roll along the ground.
What you will need
- A selection of empty clean plastic bottles with screw tops - Tropicana orange juice ones are particularly good
- Dried pulses and cake decoration balls
- Food colouring
- Coloured glitter and glycerine
- Super Glue
To make the glitter shaker
- Fill the empty plastic bottle with water
- Sprinkle some coloured glitter into the water
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of Glycerine to the water (available at all supermarkets in the cake decorating section), and stir. The Glycerine stops the glitter from sticking together
- Apply a few drops of superglue to the INSIDE of the screw lid, and screw the lid to the bottle tightly
- Wait for the glue to dry
To make the coloured water shaker
- Fill the empty plastic bottle 1/2 full with water
- Add some bright coloured food colouring into the water
- Apply a few drops of superglue to the INSIDE of the screw lid, and screw the lid to the bottle tightly
- Wait for the glue to dry
To make the sounds shaker
- Using a funnel, fill an empty plastic bottle with a handful of any type of dried pulses, beans, lentils or the cake decoration balls
- Apply a few drops of superglue to the INSIDE of the screw lid, and screw the lid to the bottle tightly
- Wait for the glue to dry
